A New beginning
The New Beginnings Project is a community-driven initiative based in Orange County, California, dedicated to helping resettled Syrian refugee families connect with the resources they need to build stable and meaningful lives in the United States. Founded by a group of Syrian Americans who volunteered their time and expertise, the project was created to support families navigating the challenges of starting over in a new country—helping them find guidance, community, and opportunity as they adjust to life in America.
For many refugees, resettlement involves far more than simply arriving in a new place. Families must learn new systems, adapt to unfamiliar cultural norms, access healthcare and education, and secure employment while rebuilding a sense of stability and belonging. Hearts of Mercy Foundation played a key role in supporting and amplifying the impact of the New Beginnings Project. In collaboration with the initiative’s founders, Hearts of Mercy organized and hosted a fundraising brunch in Orange County that brought together community members, supporters, and advocates for refugee assistance.
The event generated significant funds and community engagement, allowing the New Beginnings Project to expand its ability to provide guidance programs, integration support, and access to essential resources for refugee families. Beyond fundraising, Hearts of Mercy helped connect volunteers, coordinate community support, and raise awareness around the needs of resettled Syrian families.
