The Passions Project
Turning passion into purpose
The Passions Project is a youth empowerment initiative launched by Hearts of Mercy Foundation in partnership with New Horizon Elementary School. Built on the belief that children are the future, the program encourages students to transform their personal passions into meaningful acts of service that benefit their communities.
Through this initiative, students are invited to identify what inspires them—whether it’s art, animals, baking, technology, or other creative interests—and use those passions as a starting point for philanthropy. With guidance and encouragement from Hearts of Mercy volunteers and educators, students learn how their ideas can grow into real initiatives that support people in need.
Young participants quickly discover that their enthusiasm, creativity, and compassion can make a tangible difference. The program provides a platform for students to explore leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving while learning the values of generosity and community service. By supporting their ideas and helping bring their philanthropic projects to life, Hearts of Mercy helps transform youthful imagination into meaningful action.
The Passions Project demonstrates that age is no barrier to making a positive impact. By nurturing the natural drive and optimism of young people, the program empowers students to pay it forward, inspire others around them, and begin a lifelong journey of giving back.
Through initiatives like this, Hearts of Mercy continues to invest in the next generation—helping young leaders develop the confidence, compassion, and vision needed to create stronger communities for years to come.
MEET THE PASSIONEERS
Class of 2018
New Horizon Elementary School 5th graders used their passion for art, animals, baking, and computer science to create unique philanthropies of their own.
Special thanks to their teachers, Ms. Amira Abdel-Aal and Mr. Osman Khan, for challenging their students to create non-profits inspired by passion and turned into action.
Class of 2017
2017 saw the launch of our very first year of passions project. 6th graders were given a little over a month to not only create charities inspired by their passions, but to also collaborate with local non-profit organizations.
